Big University, Close Community

  • We have all of the opportunities an extremely large university can offer, with the comforts of a small, private institution. Even with over 19,000 students, you are more than just a number here.
  • You get a more personal, deeper educational experience here. We keep our classes on the smaller side so that you can get to know your classmates and professors.
  • Faculty and staff are here to mentor you—and they love to help! Our students consistently rave about the connections they make with their professors and how those connections help them through their college journey.
  • You can get experience in the "real world" alongside your classroom time because UL Lafayette is closely connected to local and global industries. You’ll have hands-on experience in labs, across campus, around Lafayette and throughout the region.
  • Our Cajun and Creole cultures influence your campus experience. We’re friendly, connected, and one big family. We take care of each other because we all truly care about each other.

We are allowed to be our own person. And we can talk to our professors and talk to our teachers. And if we need help at all, you know, there's somebody there and not even just with your professors, with other student organizations and that kind of stuff.

You're in a family, you know. This is your family, and you feel like that whenever you come here. You don't just get lost in a crowd.

Actually, the student to faculty ratio is only about 22 to 1. So we know what you want to do with your life. We know what your majors are. We know what your goals and dreams, your career aspirations, the problems that you might have. And so we're able to work one-on-one with you a lot more than you might expect.

Once you get here, we put you out into experiences that you will see as parallel in the real world. So if you're taking a political science course on the law, we're going to go and observe the courtroom. If you're taking a nursing class, you're going to go into the hospital. If you take an education class, then you're going to go into a school. We're going to make sure that you know what you're doing before you get to that next step.

One reason I was drawn to the university is the people. They actually care about the university. They feel like it's the best university in the world.

So naturally, if the people here feel like that, then you're going to actually feel like that once you get here. It's just the energy that they have around here. Everything is about Ragin' Cajuns. And it's the place to be.
